テーマ Theme

Increasing reading ability through building vocabulary, learning new reading skills, and reading and talking about topics of interest.

概要 Synopsis

This course focuses on increasing English ability through expanding vocabulary knowledge, learning new reading skills, and reading about and discussing diverse topics. Students examine a range of reading materials and apply new reading skills to written English. Students also refine critical thinking and logic by practicing these skills. Various activities, including speaking activities in pairs and groups, help students build upon their overall English ability. Reading 3 will build on skills learned in Reading 2.

到達目標 Aim

Upon completion of this course, students will have acquired reading skills to help them further their understanding of written English. Students will also have developed communication skills through summarizing and discussing issues raised in their textbooks and other reading materials.

授業形態 Class style

This course is conducted entirely in English. In-class and out-of-class activities consist mainly of reading, writing and speaking tasks. Students are expected to make every effort to communicate in English with their instructor and peers.

Students are expected to keep up with weekly work on Moodle. Students should regularly review previous class materials including the syllabus and course outline. Students are strongly encouraged to use the language resources from the Language Cafe to increase exposure to English.

定期試験期間中の試験実施方法 Exam period

定期試験期間中には筆記試験を実施しない。No exams are required during the exam period.

課題(試験やレポート等)に対するフィードバックの方法

Classwork and homework feedback will be given as necessary and as requested. Vocabulary quizzes and the final exam will be checked; advice will be given if necessary or requested. The book report and presentation will be assessed based on the task rubric. Individual feedback will always be readily available upon request.
